Part-Time Assistant Archivist Position Available

Are you a people person and enjoy working with the public?
The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented
person to join our creative and dedicated staff as an Assistant Archivist in the Caroline Rose
Foster North Jersey History and Genealogy Center. The person in this position helps patrons at
our NJHGC Reference desk and assists the Archivist in selecting, processing and describing non-
book collections, including organizational or personal papers, manuscripts, photographs, or art
work. The Assistant Archivist performs general preservation maintenance to the collection,
researches and answers reference inquiries, and maintains both the Department’s vertical and
Miscellaneous Manuscripts files.

work on projects such as exhibits and programs. We like a person who can work independently,
but also work as a part of a great team here at the Library.

Our Library is located in the heart of historic Morristown near many cultural and historical
attractions and a wide array of dining and nightlife. As a result, the Library receives many
visitors, and we have active participation with our residents and local businesses, both in person
and virtually.
What is the Library looking for in a candidate?
The ideal candidate will have great customer service experience, can work with a variety of
software (MS Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.) and web browsers. Candidates with an
undergraduate degree in history with previous experience in an archives or special collections
library will be preferred. The candidate will do some shelving and moving of collection materials
and must be able to push book carts and lift up to ten pounds. Fluency in Spanish is a plus,
though not required, as is knowledge of the working of libraries. The Library is busy! We are
looking for someone who enjoys staying active and learning new things.
What are the perks for working at the Library?
This is a part-time position, averaging 20 hours per week that includes evenings and weekends.
The wage is $17.00/hr. and the position includes a pension (DCRP through the State benefits
system), some paid holidays, and sick time.
