Director: Kemmerer Library Harding Township
The Board of Trustees of the Kemmerer Library Harding Township (KLHT) is seeking
resumes for consideration for the position of part time Library Director.
KLHT directly serves Harding’s population of just under 4,000 residents as well as the
greater Morris County community through a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the
Main Library Alliance (a consortium of 50+ libraries in Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset and
parts of Union County). KLHT provides a best-seller collection, interlibrary loan,
electronic resources via Libby by Overdrive, large type book collection, a book club, lots
of programming both in person and on zoom and a dynamic children’s department with
active circulation, a prized children’s librarian and a host of children’s programming.
The Library Director will oversee operations and personnel, ensuring that staff provide
quality, patron-oriented library services to the public; will maintain and improve positive
relationships with local government and community residents; develop, effectively
manage and oversee the annual budget in addition to monitoring revenue and
expenditures; assure the delivery of quality programming (in person and virtual); be an
active advocate and fundraiser for the library and make recommendations to the board
and execute library policies in accordance with best practices utilizing knowledge of the
philosophies, principles and current best practices of association (not for profit) library
operations. This individual will be accessible to the library staff, board, and wider
community as a representative of the library, utilizing keen networking abilities and
being a good source of communication both internally and externally.
The Library Director will ensure the entire community is aware of KLHT’s programs and
services through effective public relations and community outreach; ensure the facility is
welcoming and suitable for the public and staff; assess the library’s services and
collections aligning them with the mission; prepare reports and deliver to the Board of
Trustees at monthly meetings; collaborate with the library board to seek new revenue
sources, and provide active leadership for fundraising efforts (also with Friends
fundraising events) and increasing the endowment; research, identify, and apply for
alternative revenue streams such as grant opportunities; regularly communicate
progress towards goals to internal and external audiences and be a collaborative
member with other library directors of Main.
The Library Director is responsible for:
● Schedule, direct and manage the day-to-day activities of 5 part-time staff (3 circ
desk, 1 Children’s Librarian, 1 bookkeeper)
● Supervise staff by guiding, instructing and assigning tasks per their job
description duties
● Plan and supervise library services and programs, as needed, in collaboration
with other community organizations
● Track library income and expenses for board reports; pay bills in consultation
with the bookkeeper.
● Develop the annual library budget in consultation with the Board President,
Treasurer and bookkeeper
● Attend Friends of the Library meetings and work collaboratively on fundraisers.
● Maintain all KLHT technology functions or engage outsourced support on an
as-needed basis, including maintaining staff and library public access computers.
● Manage the library website and implement changes as needed
● Prepare monthly Director’s report and providing to Board president
● Attend and present Director’s report at monthly board meeting
● Prepare any additional reports as needed for Library Board meetings
● Develop, create and publicize library events and programs through website and
Engaged Patrons
● Use LibraryAware to maintain email list of patrons and others
● Use LibraryAware to develop and send weekly email newsletter
● Maintain relationship with other not for profits, Harding seniors, town council
● Ensure staff track hours and approve library payroll data on a monthly basis
● Cover the circulation desk on a temporary basis as needed and have working
knowledge of Koha ILS

● You are a strategic thinker who can translate the Library’s vision and goals into
achievable initiatives
● Bonus if you have knowledge of library principles, practices, organizations and
library services
Hours: 25 (TBD) hours a week, Monday through Friday with an occasional Saturday
