Job Title: Youth Services Librarian (Part-Time, 28 hours/week, $35.18/hr)

Job Summary:
We are looking for a Youth Services Librarian who will be responsible for creating a dynamic
and engaging library experience for children, teenagers, and their families. This role involves
developing and implementing programs, services, and collections that foster a love of reading,
support individual goals/interests, and promote positive youth development.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Management:
● Plan, organize, and execute a variety of age-appropriate programs and events for
children and young adults, including storytimes, craft activities, reading clubs, and
workshops.
● Collaborate with community organizations and schools to enhance youth programming.
● Evaluate program success and make improvements based on feedback and outcomes.
Collection Development:
● Curate and maintain a diverse collection of materials, including books, eBooks,
audiobooks, and other resources for children and young adults.
● Stay current with children’s and young adult literature trends and select materials that
align with the library’s collection development policies.
● Conduct regular collection assessment, weeding, and replacement as needed.
Reader’s Advisory and Reference Services:
● Provide reader’s advisory services to assist children and young adults in selecting
age-appropriate and engaging reading materials.
● Offer reference assistance to support research and information needs of young patrons.
● Promote digital literacy skills among young library users.
Collaboration and Outreach:
● Collaborate with local schools, daycare centers, and community organizations to
promote library services and literacy initiatives.
● Conduct outreach programs and visits to schools, childcare centers, and youth-focused
community events.
● Actively engage with parents, caregivers, and teachers to promote library resources and
programs.
Library Promotion and Advocacy:
● Create marketing materials and engage in marketing initiatives to promote youth
services programs and resources.
● Advocate for youth services within the library and in the broader community,
emphasizing the importance of literacy and library resources for young people.
Professional Development:
● Stay informed about current trends and best practices in youth services librarianship
through training, conferences, and networking.
● Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues within the library.
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited
institution.
● A strong passion for working with children and young adults.
● Knowledge of child and adolescent development and literature.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
● Familiarity with library management systems and digital resources.
● Experience in program planning and event coordination for youth.
Working Conditions:
● The Youth Services Librarian typically works within a library setting, with regular
interaction with children, teenagers, and their families.
● Some evening and weekend work will be required to accommodate program schedules
and library hours.
● Ability to lift, carry, and move library materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
