Youth Services Assistant – P/T – Denville Public Library

JOB OPENING

The Denville Public Library is seeking a part-time Youth Services Assistant to work
approximately 22 hours per week with an emphasis on marketing programs for children,
tweens, and teens.

The hours we are looking to fill are somewhat flexible but will require work on Thursday
evenings (2 pm – 8 pm) and Friday mornings (9 am – 1 pm) as well as a full day (9 am – 5 pm)
one Saturday per month. Monthly Friday evening (5 pm – 9 pm) and Sunday morning (9 am –
12 pm) shifts are required for Teen Night and Sunday Funday. In addition, there will be
occasional extra hours required for special events, including Summer Reading Kickoff, End of
Summer Party, Trunk or Treat, and Winter Fest.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Event marketing, including flyers produced in Canva, events created in Eventbrite, and
some WordPress website updating
● First draft of weekly or bi-weekly Constant Contact e-newsletters
● One preschool storytime per week plus a Saturday storytime in rotation
● Primary responsibility for a monthly Friday evening Teen Night (for kids in grades 6 and up)
● Preparation and ideas for weekly take-home craft kits for kids, tweens, and teens
● Supervision of interns and volunteers
● Book displays and promotional materials to publicize book displays
● Managing craft and supply inventory
● Shelving books and weeding the collection
● Assisting patrons, answering phone calls, and providing recommendations

Requirements: This position requires a person who is detail oriented with strong computer
skills. It also requires the ability to positively interact with children, tweens, and teens of all ages
and their families and caregivers. We value enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, kindness, and a
willingness to try new ideas.

Minimum of a High School diploma is required, but at least some college is strongly
preferred. Prior library experience is preferred but not required.

The starting salary for this position is $17.55. This position is entitled to earned sick leave per
N.J.S.A. 34:11D-1; to three paid holidays at the daily equivalent rate – July 4 th , Thanksgiving
and Christmas; to 10 vacation days at the daily equivalent rate; after one year of employment,
this position is entitled to 3 personal days at the daily equivalent rate; enrollment in the Defined
Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP), if eligible.
