Library Associate
The Parsippany Library is seeking a Library Associate to work as a substitute at the Lake Hiawatha
branch. This position would be cross-trained in each department (Circulation, Reference, and
Children’s) and would be able to cover shifts as needed. The ideal candidate would have
availability for day, evening, and weekend shifts, a background in customer service, excellent
interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide technology and troubleshooting support to

Job Description:
Position Title – Library Associate
Location – Lake Hiawatha Branch 68 Nokomis Avenue, Lake Hiawatha, NJ 07034
Supervisor – Branch Manager
Salary – $18.00/hour
Schedule – Varies, and includes days, nights, and weekends. No more than 28 hours per week.
Job Duties:
– Greet patrons and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner.
– Answer the department phone and either assist the patron, or transfer to appropriate person.
– Check in/out materials, and place holds as requested.
– Empty the book drop.
– Return materials to shelves, and check that materials are in the correct location.
– Enroll new patrons in the system and set up new library cards.
– Assist patrons with research, web searching, and computer software/programs.
– Notify the Department Manager when supplies are running low/needed.
– Reserve and provide access the group study room.
– Performs other duties to support the library system.
– Enforce Library rules of conduct and policies with Patrons.
– Experience with MAIN a plus.
Job Requirements:
– Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
– 1-2 years of customer service experience.
– New Jersey residency requirement: “New Jersey First Act”, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter
70).
– Ability to perform the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
– Able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, climb, push, and pull. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and the
ability to push and pull carts and bins up to 100 pounds.
