The Circulation Desk library assistant will be responsible for check in and check out of materials; issue library cards; collect and record fines and fees; answer the telephone; process holds; help patrons locate materials, assist with issues or concerns with computers, printers, scanners and copiers; shelve materials; straighten shelves; provide information on and accept registrations for programs; open and close the library. Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements: The candidate must be pleasant and approachable, flexible, cooperative, attentive to detail, proactive, and reliable; able to file books in alphanumeric order; be proficient with computers including MS Office; have strong customer service skills, excellent oral and written communications and teamwork skills; and able to work independently. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States and have at least a high school diploma. Familiarity with Polaris, Leap, or another ILS; social media; and prior library experience are pluses. Must be able to pass a background check.
The library assistant will work an average of about 10 hours per week as follows: every Monday night (5-8), every Wednesday afternoon (1-5), and every Thursday morning (9-12). The possibility exists for additional hours. Pay rate $12/hour.
