The Montclair Public Library–located at the center of the vibrant, diverse community of Montclair–is looking for a dynamic Librarian to serve as a programming librarian in the Adult Services Department.
This position is directly responsible for organizing and planning our popular Open Book/Open Mind author series. Previous demonstrated experience planning and executing author events and interfacing with publishers and agents is required. Current knowledge of forthcoming books, as well as an understanding of publishing trends is strongly desired. This position will also coordinate additional programs as needed provide assistance to the public at the reference desk. Applicants must interact effectively with staff and the public in a professional and positive manner, have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, as well as computer skills, such as experience with, or the ability to learn, online design and marketing tools. The successful candidate for this position must be available to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours as required. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is a must. This position will report to the Head of Adult Services but will work closely with the Open Book/Open Mind Advisory Committee.

Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or be within 2 semesters of completion) along with a minimum of one (1) year library experience planning and executing author visits is required for this position.
Salary and Benefits: Annual salary beginning at $52,819 depending on qualifications. Generous benefits package including Health Insurance, Dental coverage, a 403(b) savings plan, life insurance, and participation in the New Jersey Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). Paid public holidays, and generous paid vacation and sick time. Participation in NJLA, PLA, and ALA is encouraged and subsidized.
