Summary: The Parsippany Library is seeking a Full-Time Program & Outreach Coordinator (Civil Service
Title: Library Associate) to develop, plan and execute innovative adult programs that will delight and
inspire our diverse community.

Responsibilities include coordinating adult programs for the Main Library, and planning and attending
Outreach events. Under direction of the Head of Information Services, this position will identify
community needs, cultivate relationships with local organizations and social service agencies, attend
community events as a library representative, and develop new initiatives that will strengthen the
library’s position as an essential community center.
About the Library: The Parsippany Library serves a population of over 56,000 with a Main Library and
two branches. Located in Morris County, NJ, Parsippany is a vibrant and diverse community, which has
often been recognized as one of the best places to live in the U.S.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. 1-2 years
of experience in programming, event planning, outreach, or marketing required. Experience in a public
library a plus.
Other Important Information: New Jersey residency is required within one year of date of hire.
Successful completion of a criminal and motor vehicle background check is also required. Initial
appointment provisional pending Civil Service procedure.
Compensation: $45,500 – $55,000 annually, based on experience, with generous health benefits, paid
time off, and enrollment in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
Schedule: The regular schedule will be 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9-5pm (with a one-hour
unpaid meal break). This schedule will be adjusted when needed to accommodate programs and
outreach events, which occur on nights and weekends. This position is in-person, and will work out of
the Main Library, with occasional travel to the Library Branches and outreach events.

Job Description
Programming:
– Create, implement, and evaluate adult programs for the Main Library, with outside vendors or
internal staff, either in-person, virtually, or hybrid.
– Act as the central point of contact for all adult programming at the Main Library.
– Track program attendance, evaluate outcomes, and provide a summary of programs.
– Ensure a welcoming and accessible atmosphere for programming, including the delivery of open
and closing remarks as needed.
– Keep the Library’s website calendar up to date and ensure programming space is properly
booked.
– With the Head of Information Services, identify community needs and trends, and oversee,
develop, and implement a multi-year vision for events in the Library.
Outreach:
– With the Head of Information Services, find, attend, and participate in recurring and new
community events.
– Keep track of statistics from outreach events (i.e.: staff attendance, hours spent, number of
patron interactions).
– Coordinate staff representation at events and ensure all equipment and promotional materials
are ready.
– Attend the Parsippany Chamber of Commerce meeting throughout the year and cultivate
relationships with other community groups.
General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Ability to foster collaboration between staff members, departments, library branches, and the
community.
– Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
– Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team
and independently.
– Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively in English sufficiently to
perform the duties of this position, and speak in front of crowds.
Position Requirements:
– Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
– 1-2 years of experience in an outreach, programming, or marketing position.
– Experience in a public library setting a plus.
– Regular attendance at the work location during assigned shift times is an essential function.
– New Jersey residency requirement: “New Jersey First Act”, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter
70).
– Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Ability to use personal vehicle to
attend meetings, events, and transport materials and equipment. Mileage is reimbursed at the
IRS rate.
– Daytime, evening, and Saturday hours are required.
– Ability to perform the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Able to sit, stand, bend,
kneel, lift, climb, push, and pull. Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, and
frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
