New Jersey Library Association- Executive Director
The New Jersey Library Association, the oldest and largest library organization in New Jersey, is seeking a new Executive Director. Much more than a professional association, NJLA is a community of members serving at all levels, in their libraries and across the state, to ensure New Jersey’s citizens are provided with the best service possible. The common goal for all is to strengthen the voice of libraries in New Jersey.
The next Executive Director will have a vision for the future of libraries in New Jersey, as well as a vision for how the Association can continue to successfully serve its members. The next Executive Director will work closely with the Executive Board, as well as the Association’s Sections and Committees to establish and execute annual goals, and closely monitor strategic plan compliance.
The Executive Director must possess strong leadership skills, recognizing critical action areas where the association needs a vital presence, and forging partnerships with other statewide organizations. As the leader of the state association, the Executive Director is one of several voices in the decision process determining the future of libraries and library service in New Jersey.
Advocacy is a major component of the Executive Director’s position. The successful candidate will be the legislative agent for the Association. In addition, the Executive Director is expected to build relationships with governmental officials at the state and federal level, and work with the membership to advance library service throughout the state.
The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of the Association’s office and office staff. This includes supervising support staff, securing and evaluating office staff, executing contracts on behalf of the Association and additional management responsibilities, as necessary. A broad knowledge of technology and social media skills is highly desirable.
The Executive Director will oversee the budgetary process and will work with the Association Treasurer and the Finance Committee to ensure sound financial practice is followed.
The Executive Director needs to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, including written and formal communications and presentation skills. The Executive Director must be able to convey the Association’s message and concerns across a diverse audience and with the President, they are the chief spokesperson for the Association.
An ALA accredited Master’s Degree library or information science preferred or equivalent degree.
Current knowledge of standards and trends in the library field.
A minimum of five years of management experience.
Minimum salary $95,000 with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
