Introduction
Our consortium was established in 1986, and consists of 42 public libraries throughout
Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties, plus the library of Middlesex College. The
consortium was created to operate a shared automation system for its members and to promote
all aspects of cooperative projects and resource sharing so that a higher quality of library
services would be provided to residents within our service area. We develop, maintain, and
provide technological expertise; offer affordable, cost effective services to our member libraries;
support additional value-added services in the areas of collection development, continuing
education for library staff and trustees, marketing, consulting, and state and national library
