Continuing education opportunities

Area school districts offer extensive community education classes, area colleges run a variety of continuing education programs and local chapters of national organizations maintain active course schedules. Whatever your interests: computers, foreign languages, culinary arts, bridge, CPR, CLEP or nurse certification ... you can find the classes you need close to home.

Many MAIN Librarians are Thomas Edison State College certified proctors. (Ask at your local library.)

In addition to university studies we also proctor professional exams, industry-specific certification tests and high school equivalency programs.

Community education programs

Our local school districts offer a varied menu of educational selections. Most offer practical courses in the fields of computer science, career guidance, health & fitness, arts & crafts, cooking and language instruction. Some also sponsor trips to museums, Broadway shows and other sites of educational interest. Most offer state certified GED programs (leading to a High School equivalency diploma) and classes for people learning English as a second language.

Continuing education programs

Interested in career advancement? Starting your own small business? Expanding your personal knowledge base? Our local colleges and vo-tech schools offer a wide variety of continuing education opportunities. Many of these programs are designed to meet the needs of people seeking flexible alternatives to the traditional college structure. Classes are offered on weekends, evenings and as individual seminars. Distance education opportunities (self-study via correspondence, videocassette, television or the Internet) are accessible from the New Jersey Virtual University. Our librarians can proctor your exams. Seniors, be sure to ask if the college you are interested in offers an Older Adults program. You may be able to take advantage of special reduced tuition rates!
